What Is It and How Does It Work?

Osmosis is a naturally occurring process in nature that takes place when a weaker saline solution migrates to a strong saline solution. What Are Its Benefits?

1. Removes Lead – Lead is among the factors that promote high blood pressure and brain, nerve, and muscle damage. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP) noted that reverse osmosis could make water safe for consumption because it removes excessive levels of lead.

2. Removes Microorganisms – Poor water quality might cause infections to cancer patients, especially those undergoing chemotherapy or any radiation treatment. Medline Plus reported that water treated through reverse osmosis is ideal for those with weakened immune system.

3. Removes Sodium – Reverse osmosis removes large deposits of sodium in water. As these can’t penetrate the membranes of filtering systems, people with kidney and liver disease or high blood can regulate their sodium intake.

The process of reverse osmosis may seem complicated, but its purpose is easy to understand. If you want safe and clean drinking water, then this system might be the right one for you.

  1. This article forgot to mention that reverse osmosis also remove colloids, pyrogens, and dissolved salts. Although I doubt it can remove 100% of bacteria and viruses. But it’s effective for filtering water indeed. We still have one at home.

    The membrane of reverse osmosis systems rejects microorganisms according to their size and charge. I agree with the comment above. It’s not likely to completely get rid of bacteria. However, removing up o 99% of them is enough give you peace of mind in what you drink.

  3. Reverse osmosis-treated water tastes better too! It doesn’t have that tap water feeling when I drink. It has a fresher taste that’s almost the same as fresh spring water.
